French Language

Many people wonder how many French speakers there are in the world but there is not a definite answer to that. In 1999, French was the 11th most common language in the world, with 77 million first language speakers and another 51 million second language speakers according to the Ethnologue Report.
French is the second most commonly taught language in the world after English.

Noir Désir

This band Noir Désir is very popular in France.

This is Noir Désir

 Though their singer, Bertand Cantat, has been in jail. He was accused of beating his girlfriend to death in 2003. He served four years and got out early for good behavior.

The big talk in France this week has been about this band and how they just released two new songs.  One of the new songs they released is called "Le Temps De Cerises" and it is a cover of a revolutionary song from 1871, the era of the left-wing Paris commune. The other one is called "Gagnants/Perdants" ("Winners/Losers") is according to the press "a response to the current political and human climate."
